Meet Renee Miller, our Community Engagement Coordinator in Bloomington! Renee works with our volunteers, interns and does outreach in the Bloomington community! Renee has been a huge help in helping Exodus build connections at our second office in Bloomington, and we are so grateful for the energy she brings to the team! We asked Renee a few questions about herself so you can learn a little about her, and the work she does at Exodus!
1. Tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Renee Miller, and I am the Community Engagement Coordinator for the Bloomington suboffice! Originally from Indianapolis, I moved down to Bloomington in 2017 to attend Indiana University. I graduated from IU with a bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management and Leadership, and I started at Exodus shortly after. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my cat, Joy, and hobbies like baking, crochet, embroidery, and singing in my car! I also really enjoy getting outside, and I am grateful to live so close to some beautiful outdoor places like the Hoosier National Forest and Lake Monroe.
2. What is your role at Exodus?
I am the Community Engagement Coordinator for the Bloomington suboffice. I oversee the volunteer and internship programs, and I facilitate community engagement and outreach. I recruit, train, and manage all the wonderful volunteers and interns that we work with. I can often be found out and about in the community giving presentations or representing Exodus at various events!
3. How did you hear about Exodus and why did you want to get involved?
I first learned about Exodus through a friend who completed an internship with the Indianapolis office. When I graduated from Indiana University, I was thrilled that Exodus had an open position in Bloomington that matched my skill set! I wanted to get involved with this work because I am very passionate about bettering my community, and I wholeheartedly believe that refugees make our communities better.
4. What language(s) do you speak?
I speak English and since starting at Exodus, I have been refreshing my French!
